Martha Bayne is a Chicago-based writer and editor, serving as the senior acquisitions editor for regional trade books at the University of Illinois Press. She has edited three anthologies on Chicago and the Midwest for Belt Publishing, and her work has appeared in outlets such as the Chicago Reader, The Baffler, Eater, and PRI/The World.  

She is also a senior editor with South Side Weekly, a member of Theater Oobleck’s artistic ensemble, and the founder of the community meal project Soup & Bread. Her Soup & Bread Cookbook is now in its second edition. Find her on Instagram (@marthabayne) and Bluesky (@marthabayne.bsky.social).
