Live Podcast w/ Renaldo Domino and Aaron Cohen
$12 Adv /$15 Door / 21 & Over / Doors: 7pm / Show: 7:30pm – 9:30pm
The Secret History of Chicago Music column in the Chicago Reader has been shedding light on obscure and unheralded musicians of all genres since 2004. Drawn and scripted by artist/musician/writer/svengali Plastic Crimewave aka Steven Krakow, SHoCM has grown into a book collection, concert series, art shows, a Van’s TV channel residency, and now…a live-recorded podcast!
For this first installment, the historical focus is on pivotal Chicago Soul and Rn’B who have not gotten their just dues, and we’re extremely honored to talk with legendary soul singer Renaldo Domino (whose 60s catalog has been reissued by Numero Group) and Aaron Cohen, author of Move On Up: Chicago Soul Music and Black Cultural Power. Hosted by Plastic Crimewave himself, the event will be sponsored by 93 Boyz, Chicago’s first Black-owned cannabis brand, founded by Windy City-born musician and activist Vic Mensa.
